She nurses 4 times a day and eats solids twice a day (1 serving of stage 2 baby food and 1 serving of oatmeal at each feeding)....she is starting to take longer naps and sleeping through feedings, so I find myself cramming in her feedings just to get them in before bedtime for fear of her waking in the night hungry. Would it be okay to keep the solid intake the same but nurse only 3 times per day? Will the amount adjust into 3 feedings? In other words, I don't want her to be taking in less breastmilk. Is 3 feedings per day too little for a 7 month old? Any pointers would be great!

my best advice would to be just try it. She will let you know if she is still hungry or not. Try it for a few days if she wakes up wanting to nurse then go back to her regular schedule, if not you have found yourself a new schedule! Good luck!

A 7 month old should really be nursing more like 8 times a day as a minimum. Breastmilk should be the major source of nutrition at this age, in fact most guidelines say she should be getting non-breastmilk feeds once a day or less.

I would consider dropping some of the non-breastmilk feeds to fit in more breastmilk feeds before doing anything else.

6 - 7 months Offer solids once a day, at most. Many start out offering solids every few days or even less often.

7 - 9 months Watch baby's cues - this is particularly easy if baby nurses beforehand and most/all of the solids are offered to baby to self-feed. Increase solids gradually if baby is interested, with a maximum of 2 meals per day.

9 - 12 months Watch baby's cues - this is particularly easy if baby nurses beforehand and most/all of the solids are offered to baby to self-feed. Increase solids gradually if baby is interested. Aim for baby getting no more than 25% of her calories from solids by the age of 12 months (some babies eat less than this at 12 months and that's also normal).

I actually do not breast feed anymore at this point but as for my son, he drinks three 8 oz bottles of formula a day and has three solid meals a day. He is very healthy and happy. Around this age doctors will say that babies only require 18-24 oz of milk a day. Also if your baby seems to be very hungry, it may be time to increase the solids and decrease the liquids!

I breastfed my daughter about 5 times a day at this age. Breastmilk was still very important to her. I nursed her when she woke up, around lunch time, when she woke up from naps, around dinner time, and before she went to bed. Call the pediatrician for advice.
