We have had 4 exams so far. we have 3 left including the final as two of the three. each exam was worth 125 pts the final is 250. On the 4 exams I recieved: 82%,82%, 60%, and 78%. How do I plug in these numbers into an inequality to find the minimum number of points needed on the subsequent exams for an A, B, C, D?

It all depends on what percent you need for each grade range.

So far you have taken 4 exams each worth 125 pts.
82% x 125 pts = 102.5 pts
82% x 125 pts = 102.5 pts
60% x 125 pts = 75 pts
78% x 125 pts = 97.5 pts

That means you have scored 377.5 pts out of a possible 600 pts.

You have an additional 600 pts (2 exams, 1 final).

Currently you have an average of 77.5%
If you do nothing, you'll end up with 377.5 pts out of a possible 1200 = 31.46% which would definitely be failing.

If you ace all the remaining exams, you'll have 977.5 pts out of a possible 1200 = 81.46%

90+ is generally an A
80+ is generally a B
70+ is generally a C

So I don't think you can do any better than a low B (e.g. B-) and are more likely going to get a C.

The inequality would depend on the percentages for each grade level, but let's say your school requires at least 90% (0.90) for an A, 80% (0.80) for a B, 70% (0.70) for a C and 60% (0.60) for a D.

Then you would have:
(377.5 + points for an A) / 1200 ≥ 0.90
(377.5 + points for a B) / 1200 ≥ 0.80
(377.5 + points for a C) / 1200 ≥ 0.70
(377.5 + points for a D) / 1200 ≥ 0.60

Edit:
Note, if you solve these for the points you get:
points for an A ≥ 0.90 * 1200 - 377.5
points for an A ≥ 702.5 (not possible)

points for a B ≥ 0.80 * 1200 - 377.5
points for a B ≥ 582.5 (approx. 97% or better on remaining tests)

poinrts for a C ≥ 0.70 * 1200 - 377.5
points for a C ≥ 462.5 (approx. 77% or better on remaining tests)

poinrts for a D ≥ 0.60 * 1200 - 377.5
points for a D ≥ 342.5 (approx. 57% or better on remaining tests)

82% of 125 = 102.5pt
60% of 125 = 75pt
78% of 125 = 97.5pt
You have 377 points so far.

Course grade calculated from accumulated pts÷1000 pts (the maximum)
Calculate the total points you need to for each grade level.
For example, if an A is 90%+ then you need
90%*1000=900 points total
900-377 = 523+ to get an A

If you got 100% on the next 3 exams you'd get 500 points, but that is not enough for an A.

What topics were on the third exam?
