I prepared a great meal for my family and several guests that were invited yesterday. We had a lot of fun and everyone raved about the food. During cleanup, one of my guests mentioned that she wanted to take home some leftovers for her and her husband and I said that was was fine. There was enough food left for several days to munch on. I didn't pay attention since I was doing dishes but I heard them complimenting the dishes I'd prepared. They put their food bundles in a bag near the door. When I looked at what was left I was appalled! There was nothing left! The husband told the wife to leave "something" so she scooped out of her dishes. What we got left with was enough food for one person to enjoy for lunch! I have never seen such a practice in my life, and certainly have never done this myself. Its been my belief that the host and hostess get to keep most of the stuff and that you send home some plates with guests of dishes they really enjoyed. Thoughts?

To the person who suggested I send "everything home" with guests.....I disagree with you! I sponser families at Christmas and have donated many hours and turkeys at Thanksgiving. My "guests" are not underpriviledged or have so little that I worry about what they're eating! In fact, they make more than I do!

Yes, that is completely out of order. Normally you should expect guest to take home only a plate full of food or a particular dish that they have disclosed they enjoyed. To leave only a "dish" full of food is ridiculous. A tip for you would be to hand out left overs next time instead of allowing guests to handle them themselves.

That's just being greedy..I've had people do the same thing to me in the past when I throw party's one person took home enough stuff to eat on for days and my family was left with nothing..so now after everyone eats I go put aside a couple of plates for me and my husband then let my guest go for it...my husband gets really upset when all my hard work goes out the door and he has nothing left for lunch the next day.

That's terrible and very rude. I can't belive someone would do that. We go to my mil for thanksgiving and bring home leftovers, one plate each and sometimes I feel bad but that's horrible. Leftovers are suppose to be for the family that prepared the big meal so they don't have to cook for the next few days. That's just rude!

That is horrible! I have never heard of this happening before. Maybe they thought that you had some more in the fridge already or something, because most sane people would never do this to their friends.

It is just food, send as much away as you can. IF you want it all for yourself, then cook just for yourself and dont invite people.

At this time of year, the thought process should not be on what food your guest are taking home
