Fish involved have been with me for over a year and are settled in healthy tank. The neon got very uncomfortable with its 'shadow' but took about a minute to shake it off. Neon is a bit of a plumper - therefore probably female. Both fish live happily with a group of there own species within the tank.

Female fish often release breeding pheromones that tell males that they are ready to spawn... It is possible that the Rummynose was picking up on these chemicals and tracking the Neon in an attempt to catch any eggs it would soon be dropping for fertilization... Unless you are trying to breed your fish, there is nothing to worry about.

EDIT: I find it highly unlikely that the Rummynose mistook the Neon for a Rummynose and attempted to school with it, but it is, of course, possible.

Seeing as they were both tetras, I'd say that the rummynose mistook the black neon for a fellow rummynose and decided to school with it. I'd say that there isn't anything wrong, but it's just odd behaviour.
