I think that if gas stations went back to being just that, gas stations instead of mini megamarkets ,that would help lower prices.

Love the idea! I would love to see the corner gas station owned and operated by a mechanic come back. For the good old days

Actually, the concept of combining food and gas was designed to LOWER gas prices which it originally did. That is, until they put all the independent gas stations out of business, now they can charge more. Originally consumers would stop for the slightly cheaper gas and grab an over-priced loaf of bread or gallon of milk while they were there.
In my area, we have two "gas only" stations and their prices are the same. The guys running them make their money on repairs and service (I talked to one of them). The volume of gas sales alone won't support their operation.

i think a tax on all capped oil wells in the us would lower the prices as fuel would be dumped on the markets

They make about 15 cents per gallon gross profit. Without the sale of the junk foods they would not be profitable (net profit) at all. Then, where would you buy your gasoline?

I dont think so. I dont think they make any money off of gas.

in uk they get 2p a litre profit
