Where I live, most people refer to them as pop. But I have also heard of them being called soda and even a quasi-generic title of Coke.
How about where you live?

We use pop here in Canada.
We never say give me a soda, it is always asked for by exactly what you want.

A coke is a coke.
A gingerale is not a coke, nor is a 7-up.
Ask for a pop and you get "What kind"?
Ask for a soda and you will get a soda water.
In restaurants they ask if you would like a soft drink.
If you just say yes, they ask you 'what kind'?.

I am in Chicago and most people I know call them either soda or Coke as a quasi-generic title. A few souls say pop, but not many.

Soda. Soda-pop. But in truth, where I live I basically call it Coke, Pepsi, Orangina, Sprite, or Mountain Dew.
