My favorite is King Lear because of the differences between the good children and the evil ones in it. I am also amazed at how perfectly the subplot reflects the main plot. The King was an old man who was vulnerable and preyed upon. Kent was a true hero to protect him just as Gloucester's good son, Edgar tried to help him. The shame was that both men had to dress in disguise to be loyal. Many books have been written emulating the same theme.

I started school when I was 15 (yeah- long story!) and entered ninth grade half way through Julius Caesar. We then went on to Romeo and Juliet... I have read them all- I am a fanatical admirer of Bill. And my favourite is R & J because of the location and romance of it (I played Mercutio despite being a girl), my favourite from a visual MOVIE experience is Much Ado About Nothing (which, incidently is my FAV film of ALL TIMES) and I adore Hamlet. I love the psychology of it all. He was not mad- he was just very troubled. The Merchant of Venice and Midsummer Night's Dream are ace too. And then there is Henry The Vth! Taming Of The Shrew... You will have fun. Believe me. Once you have read them get thee to a theatre and see them as they were intended to be enjoyed! It is something I cannot begin to describe!

The 'Taming of the Shrew'.

I remember seeing a TV version with Marc Singer and some unknown actress. It was soooo funny!

Besides, it's the only Shakespeare play that I can understand!

Romeo and Juliet, it has a lot of meaning and depth to it, it also signifies a lot of things like fate and destiny, it's also mildly comical, like the scene after the prologue. "Do you bite your thumb at us sir?"

I <3 it.
