Yes you can. You can buy a paint kit from most good paint stores that is made for painting tubs. It is epoxy and you need to follow the directions that is on the container for prepping and cleaning the tub. You do have to have good ventilation and a good respirator. The paint is self leveling and can be applied with a paint brush or roller. I found that a brush was easier to use though. The most important part of the job is making sure the tub is cleaned and you follow all of the directions very carefully. It may take four or five coats to do it properly and you have to wait about 45 minutes between coats. Good Luck

With no offense to anyone; and a great respect for Eskie... I'd suggest other options; like replace the tub.

I have no clue what a "Refinsher" might charge; or how long they might "gaurantee" their work; but consider that a tub "Finish" from a manufacturer; might last a lifetime,,,Primarily due to the process, and the materials used.

This is just one persons opinion, and I have no desire to discredit any answers, but I wouldn't do it. Certainly if a guarantee is substantial, and/or the contractor would be willing to service any dissatisfaction after the fact; and you aren't figuring on it lasting forever; or this is a rental; and you weigh the cost against a new tub; OR can't live with PINK; etc. etc. etc. then by all means don't do this as a DIY.

Again, and with no offense to anyone, this so relates to questions regarding, PAINTING ceramic tile.

I wish you success.

I agree you really need to hire a bathtub refinisher. There are kits available depending on the type of tub you have. They make them for cast iron, acrylic and fiberglass but they all look terrible and perform poorly with the amount of water, humidity and moisture in bathrooms. The professional uses a type of epoxy that chemically bonds to the surface of your tub so that it becomes impervious to the heat, humidity and water it is exposed to. You can use any cleaning products after it is professionally done and you are limited with the DIY products. Moreover, these products are toxic chemicals and when you see the hazardous materials suits the refinisher wears along with his eye and hand protection and respirator, you will be glad you hired an expert.

lowes and possibly home depot sell a product called tuff as tile which is a 2 part solution with epoxy it comes white but may be tinted any color at the store, i have used it several times on tile floors and walls and a bathtub and sink and they all look great, the only problem is the surface has to be scrubbed and or lightly sanded and cleaned and dried well and it takes up to 5 days to dry/cure properly at temps. above 65 degrees. one kit costs about 20 bucks and can do 1 tub,1 toilet and 1 sink with some leftover.good luck.

You can do it yourself but it won't ever look like anything bnut a painted tub. The paint is dangerous to breathe too so a professional is the way to go. Check the yellow pages in your area or ask around. Refinishing services are generally listed.

A similar question was asked and photos posted on AskSolvers.com The link is http://asksolvers.com/viewasks/?go=81 The general consensus is that there are plenty of products available to refinish your tub. But it is easier said than it is done. Good luck.

You need to hire a professional to prep and apply the acrylic.

change the tub, it sounds like you have a 1980's suit and could do with updating and i recon you could do with some shiny new taps as well.......
