I think I am for it. I have heard the reason's such has being inhumane and what not. But my question back is always..WHAT IS HUMANE ABOUT RAPING OR MUDERING CHILDREN? That to me is the bottom line! How many chances have most of these men and women on death row been given? My guess is far more then they're victims! What is your feeling on this subject yahoo land?

I'm for it. I personally think if you are going to rape, molest or any other horrible act against a person. You should be punished. Not this, " I'm gonna send your A-- to the slammer, so you can eat better than I can junk."

In China I think you still get caned. I don't know. The Bible says Eye for an eye.
What is our system saying to people, " Oh, if you rape a 10 year old girl, but you claim you are mentally incapable of taking the stand, you can go to a nut house until your well." MY EYE.
Here we go ACLU. Bunch of cruddy people. But, he had a bad life. So, it doesn't make it OK for him/her to destroy someone else life in the meantime and get a nice place to live and plenty of food. While the person they harmed is living in fear of EVERYONE.
MY 90 year old grammpa was mugged and had the junk beat out of him about a month ago. The cops have his finger prints and they say they can't find him. Well, my 2 uncles no where the piece of junk lives and they are watching and when MR. Piece of Junk isn't looking, well... you know. They'll beat him up. I'm glad. Who do you think you are picking on some 90 year old man who was out going for a walk? LOSER is what you are. My Grammpa is afraid to go for walks now because of these punks.

I apoligize if someone out there gets offended by this. I jsut get tired of people getting away with MURDER and nothing gets done about it. It is almost like they are getting a pat on the back.

Nothing is humane about raping or murdering anyone. You don't have to sympathize with criminals or want them to avoid a terrible punishment to ask if the death penalty prevents or even reduces crime and to think about the risks of executing innocent people. Your question is much too important to settle without answers to these questions.

The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reputable study shows the death penalty to be a deterrent. To be a deterrent a punishment must be sure and swift. The death penalty is neither. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in states that don’t.

We have a good alternative. Life without parole is now on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. It is sure and swift and rarely appealed. Life without parole is less expensive than the death penalty.

The death penalty costs much more than life in prison, mostly because of the legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people.

124 people on death rows have been released with proof that they were wrongfully convicted. DNA is available in less than 10% of all homicides and isn’t a guarantee we won’t execute innocent people.

The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?

The death penalty doesn't necessarily help families of murder victims. Murder victim family members across the country argue that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.

Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. If the process is speeded up we are sure to execute an innocent person.

If there is not serious consequence to serious crime; we will never get on top of it.

Many argue that it has not been much of a deterrant, but let's put it this way; there are some people that truly deserve what they get. There is seldom that innocent people are killed for crimes that they did not commit. Innocent people are being killed every day by criminals. IF there is ONE innocent person in prison there are several ways to prove his innocence. Check out the trial; the police investigation; and so on. Exhaust all areas with a checks and balances. If he still comes out looking guilty and IS in fact innocent and put to death; then I'm sorry my friend; he is yet another statistic. We need punishment for those who commit heinous crimes.

I tend to be a pacifist. Just want the bullies to be shown how the meek are when they get riled up! Nana

All for it ....but the appeals process must be eliminated...too many monsters on the row that cost too much $.
Once convicted, the sentence should be carried out within 60 days. That is plenty of time for a judge to review the trial proceedings(NOT the trial judge but a judge that HAS sentenced someone to death...Not some liberal moron) and for the condemned to get any affairs in order. Not that it would matter any way as contact with their family would not be permitted until 24hrs prior to execution.
Capital punishment is not effective unless it is carried out swiftly and with as little effort as possible. All executions should be either hanging or firing squad.Lethal Injection is much too good for those mutts...they cause(d) a great deal of pain...they should receive some back.

I think we should have a federal law where we separate the ones for and the ones against it. We should do away with appeals. Then, let the ones against capital punishment pay for those prisoners for their life behind bars. If they feel so strongly about it, let them pay. Why should the rest of us. When one of their relatives or kids gets murdered, let them pay for it and see how they feel.
