Why do New York firefighters oppose Giuliani as a presidential candidate?

They say he takes all the credit for 9-11. They also say he cost a lot of lives through his appointments, which caused a lot of improper and bad equipment to be used, which caused a lot of them to get sick and die.

The fire fighters needed better radio equipment so the pleaded and pleaded and finally they got poorly made radios from a company that was supporting guillani. After these radios completely failed he just went back to the old radios so when 911 happened and the first building fell down there was no way to communicate to the firefighters to get out of the building so they died needlessly. But what got me is how he stood out on the disaster sight and claimed to be in control and got as much press time as possible. There are a lot of firefighters that feel terrible about the inefficiency of the government.

A few people got the correct answers going here, but another thing to add is how Giuliani did nothing, I repeat NOTHING, that was heroic or otherwise extraordinary. Some of his pre-9/11 policies caused even more havoc and death when 9/11 occurred, such as his refusal to move his emergency HQ out of the WTC towers, and his refusal to issue operational equipment. He refusal to work out a contract with the union, even after the horrors fo 9/11.

But most of all his quote, "I was down there at ground zero working alongside them, probably even more than anybody else in the city, so I did a great deal of work myslef"

That was a bold faced lie. He never cleaned up a thing. He was down there taking photos the whole time with whatever VIP wanted to show up. LIke when he said he reduced crime, but it was his first policie commish, Bratton that did it. Bratton was fired when he tried to claim credit for the drastic crime reduction.

Giuliani and all Republicans are Union Busters. Republicans side with the BIG Corporations instead of siding with the working people. Giuliani didn't provide our police or firefighters with the necessary equipment that they needed while trying to save lives during 9/11. He didn't provide the clean up crews with the proper equipment during the clean up efforts and he has made millions from speaking engagements touting his "leadership" during 9/11 and the days after, exploiting a national tragedy for his own monetary gain.

I would say that they realize that he is a waffling, equivocating, two-faced fraud, like just about everyone else that runs for office in America. Also they realize that he was NOT a hero on 9/11, and in fact could, and should be called a coward for his actions on that day. Moreover I am sure that this failed leader and coward attempting to make political gold off of the deaths of their brethren is not pleasing to them--to put it mildly.

first he gave a no bid contract for fireman radios to a corp who donated funds to get him elected (the radios werent working during americans worst nightmare on 9-11 so many firefighters never heard the call to get out of the towers )It was known way beforehand they didnt work and he never made an effort to resolve the problem

second he was told during the first wtc bombing attempt to move city emergency HQ to brooklyn -he didnt -which helped add to the chaos on 9-11

Third after a certain banks millions of dollars in gold was found giuliani wanted to commence cleanup before all firefighters and victims corpses were found sending heroes and victims bodies to the dump .
Mr.9/11 is nothing he betrays himself as

and how anyone can sit here and name call the true heroes of 9/11 anything but heroes is belittling the sacrifices these people endured on 9/11 to save lives

They are suffering from all kinds of health problems, even death from being there working in that mess, and the gov't said it was safe!

firefighters are unionized and they want higher wages for no more work. they also think the Democrats and others who've never had to balance a budget will be easier to bamboozle into excessive raises.

why endorse a known opponent of their union when there are so many weak sisters to choose from?
