I disagree with giving as much homework as they do. I don't believe the teachers are really teaching that way. Some don't bother with much instruction in class, but expect the student to figure it out at home or with the help of parents. Well it has been sometime since I was in school and I don't remember a lot of it. But I always agree with you, that the holiday should be to relax and recharge. But if you want to get ahead in this world, extra work will help get you there quicker!

As a teacher I usually arranged that major research papers and other projects should be submitted prior to a holiday so that I would have time to grade them properly. I did this and had time for my family too. There is nothing wrong in giving homework over the holidays provided that the quantity and the quality of the homework is reasonable.

I agree half heartedly. True, traditionally the holiday is know for family gathering and relaxation. But, a child that is bout their business will have no problem ripping through a few assignments. It also my be a time to take advantage of and get some patient help with a problem subject. Hmm..

Of course not. Holidays is for getting together with your family and relaxing and having a good time. The last thing you need is work to stress you out. Plus, most kids wouldnt even do it.

I agree. This is the time for students to unwind from the social and academic pressures of school, as well as reconnecting with family. Being a kid isn't as easy as it was decades ago. More expectations than ever are being placed on the shoulders of children who are too young to carry this load. The holidays are supposed to be a break from these pressures. No one would expect an adult to work while he or she was on vacation and the same rule should apply to children as well.

I do. Besides, most kids either don't do the homework, or they copy it from the nerds in their class (no offense to you guys). I know that the teachers want to make sure we remember the stuff, but we not really learning anything if we're only going to do a half- butt job. I wish my teachers thought like this; I have to write an essay and do 8 pages of social studies over Thanksgiving break.

Absolutely not!
A couple years ago, I went to school where they gave out these COLOSSAL homework packets. 5 in all. (1 for reading, writing, science, math, and social studies). We were required to do them or (in some cases) get an F for that quarter regardless of how well we did on everything else.
I found that funny considering the shrinks at the schools were always saying that kids were so stressed.

1-2 pages, sure, but I can also understand that teachers don't want their students to forget what is being taught! I know that when I go back to school after a break I kind of forget some things that I had learned the previous week or so.

yes i have been saying this type of stuff since i was in the 5th grade. teachers don't want to give out homework or have to correct grades when they are off the holidays so why give us homework? i think its because the state and its surrounding cities have to give so much homework and test out each quarter so these stupid teachers say let us kids or adults do home work during the holidays

Ah, homework over a holiday. A teacher's revenge for all of the sh**ty stuff kids do leading up to the holiday! Guess who's enjoying their holiday. Teachers!
