First off he needs to get his distemper and rabies shots every year to protect him from diseases.Finding a good exotic vet is hard.Be careful of dog/cat vets that may not know too much about ferrets. My ferrets have their own bedroom and have free run of the house during the day. He's gonna need at least 3 hrs of play a day.The more the better.Make sure you have the best kibble.Sheppard and Greene ferret kibble is the best.Nutro kitten kibble is good too. That's what my picky eater is eating now.I would introduce him to Gerber chicken baby food as a treat b/c it can help stimulate appitite if you have to at some point.I wash down my ferrets cage once a mo. b/c they're not in there that often. If he's locked in his cage everyday I would check it daily, but wash it maybe once a week or at least every 2 weeks.Don't bathe him morethen once a mo and don't forget to clean his ears when you do.I cut nails about every 10 days. You can use hair ball goo to keep him distracted and it's a snap-with a second pair of hand to help:)Good Luck!Hope I helped.

Awww, congratulations, ferrets are great companions & uber cute! Cage-cleaning will be *much* easier if you litter train your little guy-- there are pre-made litter pans you can buy,or just use whatever container you have that's the right size-- it should be low enough in front so he can easilly back into it but high everywhere else so there's no spilling. Use kitty litter in the pan & be patient & persistent, & don't forget to reward him for using the box.
Feed him ferret food made for his life stage. If that's not available, get the highest-quality kitten food you can find. For treats, use ferret or cat treats & they looove Ferretone, which is a vitamin supplement. You can squirt a couple drops of Ferretone onto his tummy to distract him when you trim his nails-- we had to re-apply it for each foot on our girl.
You probably know how playful & active ferrets are, which is one of the charming things about them. Give your little guy plenty of playtime outside his cage & let him have toys in the cage also. They usually enjoy hammocks to sleep in.
You might want to take him to a vet for vacinations & a check-up too. Enjoy your little guy.

my sister had a ferret and she later ended up giving her to someone who could spend more time with him. i know for sure they need a lot of attention. and clean the cage all the time. or they will pick a corner of your room to go. If your going to let him run around , make sure things like shoes are not in his reach. my sister had about 5 pairs of good shoes like nikes, and he chewed the rubber parts all up. they like to chew. especily when they are bored.

They are also very sensitive to food, they get constipated very soon. A ferret-expert told me. She only fed them fresh meat. ( chicks, pidgeons etc ) She said this was very important.
