That's not customer service, it's customer rip-off. Was she informed in advance that there would be a service fee for the call? If not, I would call a bank VP and have them remove the charge. If they don't, then it's time to shop around for a new financial institution (consider finding a credit union - where the fees are not as frequent or steep).

Customer service is disappearing, like full service gas stations. My bank has a toll free number to access my account. I can balance my checkbook, see what has cleared and make sure what did clear went through for the correct amount. I know there are other services on that number that I don't use. The amount of times I call appears on my statement, but I've never been charged (yet). I guess after so many calls a month there is a charge. I try to call only two or three times a month. Maybe your bank has that too.

I learned years ago never to call my bank. They have had a service charge from $2 to $5 any time you call. Then if you call to complain, they charge you again. Also, the amount they charge for printing checks is outrageous. I would guess that the biggest percentage of people order by mail for at least half the cost of bank checks.

I bank at a credit union, no fees, free checks, a free debit card and I can check on my account 24/7. I know what you mean about fees. I paid my power bill over the phone with my debit card and was charged $4.50. I wrote a letter to the editor and got a call from the power company and an apology, no refund. I was often away from home caregiving and could not pay without a call--a few months later I paid late and was charged 50 cents. Go figure, pay on time, penalty, pay late a slap on the wrist.

They are truly robber barons.

I have been with my credit union for 12 years. $1.00 a month "bank fee", 12.50 for a box of checks w/carbons. 3% interest on checking (minimum balance 300.00) 4 1/2% on savings. No fee for using ATM card-no matter where I use it.

It's not always convenient...it's 60 miles away. However all checks I receive on a regular basis are direct deposit. If I get a check in the mail, it's a pleasant drive up and back.

I wouldn't ever work with a regular bank again.

When I was a teller at Wells Fargo Bank they instituted a $2 fee if you called the phone bank, talked to someone and it was something you could have done on the automated service or online banking. I felt it was wrong then and think it is even more wrong that I got charged TWICE because I was on a cell phone and got disconnected. AND it was not something I could check with my online banking I had already done that! on my ranting done... that is my take... The banks charge outrageous fees because they can and to "help" pay for the paperwork. *rolls eyes* didn't believe it then and still don't.

That's just one reason I no longer deal with them! And if your identity is stolen - Wachovia will not help you to get things restored to normal - - - - it happened to me. Now I bank with a credit union. No fees for anything! And it is just not banks - AT&T is as bad. They called to "update my service" -sucker that I was I signed up for "it's only $2.00 a month" long distance! Huh! But they charge you $7.00+ to add the service - I got angry and told them to remove it several months later- and they charged me $9.50 to remove my $2.00 long distance service - which I never used! Go figure!

Yep! Now, we have to pay for the service. Total rip off. This was on the news a while back, but not sure of the reason. Maybe because the prime rate mess? Let's face it, Middle Americans are going to be charged for everything, and pay more taxes - - That's what the Democrats will do in order to fund its programs. Che, Ching, Che, Ching

My bank (in England, who shall be nameless) charge £10 per month to manage your account unless you keep £1,500 in it at all times! (double that for dollars). That means that people who don't have much, have even less! What a cheek and a rip off! It wont be of any use to change banks either, as apparently they are all going to do it so I have heard.
