I've been using Y/A for a couple of weeks now and I've noticed something that doesn't really seem right. Whenever I am voting for the unresolved questions, I always notice that the very first answer almost always has the most votes. I think that this is because most people just want the one point for voting and don't even take the time to read the answers. They just click on the first one to quickly get their point. This doesn't seem fair to me though because usually the best and most helpful and well thought out answers are more near the bottom of the answers. I was wondering if everyone would think it a good idea to penalize people who vote for the first answer all the time. Or maybe actually penalize the asker for not choosing a best answer. Let me know if anyone else has any other ideas. Thank you.

I agree with you. I think they just pick the first answer just to get the points! I actually try to find the best answer

lol... it's not fair, but what can you really do... you cant take away people's freedom of choice.. cuz once they start enforcing the penalties you speak of.. people not gon wanna vote on no1 no more.. people usually are motivated by competition.. n den now you want them to start penalizing them for wanting free points jus cuz you want recognition.. thats gon piss people off like hell to do that.. they prolly wouldnt be on here as much or vote for other people anymore, or jus purposely vote on random people... n it might not be you.. so either way you'd prolly get screwed over, cuz they have other people they can choose from anyway regardless.. if you worried bout gettin yo points n being voted best, try to be that first answer then.. since you say they always get most vote

Y!A has many guidelines and rules that make a lot of things unfair on here. I have just accepted the fact that things will never be completely fair on here. For example, I just got a violation and my question removed because a person insulted me without even answering my question. Because of that person's insult, I proceeded to give that person a piece of my mind and I was the one penalized for it. This site will never be fair unless Y!A changes a lot of things about it. They really need to reevaluate their rules and guidelines and realize that every true opinion is not always going to be a nice one.

I don't agree, I have had the best answer. My answer was not the first answer, but the best answer. I also have voted on the undecided vote I read all of the answers, I don't vote on the first answer unless it is the best.

no, i think choosing the first one for ease is as good a reason as any. YA is one of the fairest things in the world. what are you doing to make things more fair for people who don't have enough food, clean water to drink, opportunities to use a computer, schooling.....

maybe the person who votes should have to say why they are voting for that answer.

Absolutely not. Let's go to Yahoo! headquarters together and petition for them to change the system!
