It depends on how closely related to this person you are. Or what your relationship with this child is. If you are very close, consider spending more on the child. But if you're not the parent of the child, then $200 to $300 seems a little too much. I'd say $30 would buy a good gift for a 12 year old.

You need to specify. Is the 12 year old your child?? A friend of your childs?? Or some random little kid?? Also, 200-300 dollars on ONE present, or on all of them put together?? Well, today my mom gave me and my brother $250 each to spend at black friday. We both spent all of it. Im pretty sure were not getting much more for Christmas besdies $$ from other relatives and a pool table.

Is this your child? If so, just make sure it's equal with the other children in your family. If it's an only child, then it's entirely up to you. There is no right or wrong answer. Is this a non family member? If so, then use common sense. You can find something nice for 15 to 20 bucks, especially if you shop the sales.

What you can afford and what they will like. I have spent $10 on a gift that was better liked than the $300 gift.
Do not spend more than their parents can afford. This may hurt the parents feeling. When I see a big $ item I know my nieces and nephew would like I ask their parents first

it all depends on if they are your child or not. if it is your child, get them something they want, and if it is only $100, its ok! If you are setting a limit, I'd say $300 is PLENTY enough. Remember, its not about how much you spend, but how much thye like it. And you don't always have to get a lot. One big thing is always good.

If it is not your child I'd say anything over $50 is a little much :) hope that helps!

IF the child in question is one of the decent children that is so rare to find in this world, and they are the only child you are buying for, then yes 200 should be ok... don't go much past that though.

IF the child in question is one of the little snot nosed disrespecting brats who you'd like to send back to juvey, then I'd get them a lump of coal and donate the money I would have spent on them to a charity for gifted children.

if the present if for a sibling or other close relative, spend more.

if the person is not related, spend less.

but 200-300 dollars is a lot to spend on any 12 year old. in my opinion

Hmm.. then go to Micheals Arts and Crafts store or Joanne Fabrics or any craft store.. for about $10-$12 you can find all these craft kits and sweet stuff to make..or find some other craft kits to buy for them..Target has stuff too..If you guys are into music..Walmart,Target, Bestbuy, has music cds you can buy..or even DVDs. Costco has some pretty good cds and movies too, books if they like. Im really not sure if you guys have these stores in Hawaii..same country but area..?
