I realize many stylish people who dress for the corporate world feel the need to be dressed in the lastest fashion but that is not my personal lifestyle.
I remember as a child as necessity we had to get new winter coats. Of course we passed down the too small ones or gave them away.
The climate where I live is too mild to need a heavy coat. We wear ours for years.
It never occurs to me my coat might be dated until I see someone in a really attractive coat.

Hardly. I found two amazing coats recently in a thrift store for $1 each. One was a 100% wool non-military P-coat. The other was a black, mid-thigh length cashmere coat. I love them both and really lucked out that day!

In years gone by, I usually wore the same coat for a few years, then I bought a new one. That way, I gave the old coat to the needy, & wear the new coat for a few years. Since moving south, I no longer have a need for a winter coat but I am hanging on to the coat I bought to wear the last winter that I was living in the north.

Usually I get some kind of coat each year, two years ago a raincoat, last year a good wool coat (was about to fly from Hawaii to Boston Mass in January, discovered the only shop in Honolulu with winter coats, one left, my size)

I live in London, so need a warm coat this time of year.

Incidentally, ever since I was a teenager and got my first pay packet, the price of a decent winter coat has always approximated to one week's wages before tax.

The last coat I purchased was in 1997...it was a huge, long down filled thingie with a hood. I was taking public transportation to work. Standing on the platform and walking the six or seven blocks to work when I arrived in the city called for as much warm stuff as you could pile on your body.

Before that it was 1994 - a great, long London Fog with a zipout furry lining. It still serves me well.

I have purchased a light jacket and a ruana for those "in between" seasons....jacket about 6 years old, ruana 3 years old.

I have never been a "fashion plate" but prefer to spend good money on classics that can be worn year after year.

Rather spend my money doing something wonderful - like cruising.

We don't buy a new winter coat each year....couldn't afford to. We have bought new winter jackets for this year but that was because our other ones had seen better days and for the past couple of winters haven't kept us warm at all. There's not much "warming" happening with this Global stuff here in the UK lol. We bought them at the back end of the Summer in a Sale. Our daughter bought herself a coat about 18 months ago and she will keep that one until it drops off her. We've taught her well.....if there's nothing wrong with the one you've got don't waste money on a new one!

I don't buy a new one every year but in the past if I saw one I liked on sale it usually went home with me. Money is tighter now so I am less impulsive. Besides, my closets are overstuffed as it is as I rarely wear anything out and can't seem to get rid of perfectly good things. I have also donated some whenever there is a coat drive for the poor. Its always nice to find a little space in the closet now and then.

I used to, when I was ever so much younger. I finally gave away the best winter coat I ever had. It was a pale gray full-length coat with a fox collar. I'd spilled coffee on it and it wouldn't clean off, and I was afraid to try getting it dyed.

For the past umpteen years, I've been wearing a Polartec car coat I bought from either Land's End or LL Bean.

I've reached an age where comfort and warmth beat style hands down.

I have own the same coats for years and do not see getting any more for years.

I have a cloth long black coat my son bought me with his discount when the coat went on clearances the coat was a $300.00 . He got it for $65.00. He worked at Christmas time at JC Penny's and told me he wanted me to have it so he would hide it so know one would buy it and when the after Christmas sale came he bought it for me when it finally went on clearances. It is a nice coat I wear when I go to evening weddings.

I have a London Fog trench coat that does not seem to go out of style. I also have a leather coat that is still a classic. Just for fun I bought my self a red coat it is fun to wear and not very classic and will be out of style soon b u t in my 53 year's I always bought the practical stuff.:)

I own ONE winter coat....I don't like coats now that I drive everywhere. In my youth I had more but then I used to take public transportation more often than now.

Don't like driving in heavy coats and a couple years ago my daughter gave me a shortie faux reversible fur coat that fits the bill :-)

It stays fairly mild here the past few years and last year I wore my coat only 4-5 days during the season.

I haven't owned a winter coat since I left Colorado in 1987. I live in the southwest and our winters last about two to four weeks, the last week or two of Dec. and the first week or two of Jan. I am rarely cold anyway. Usually overly warm so I get by with a sweater. I might wear it two or three days a year. I just bought a new one. The old one is over seventeen years old. Mine last a long time.
