He'll obviously boost their defense in a big way, but does he bring that much offensively? His career OBP of .324 and slugging percentage of .469 are closer to a guy like Jacque Jones (.329 and .455) than they are to an elite player.
He's never ranked in the top 10 in any offensive category, has hit only more than 30 homers once, and has never scored or driven in more than 100 runs. I'm sure he'll help the team, but isn't $15m per for 6 years pretty extreme for someone with those numbers?

GoBravos - How is he great, besides his defense? His numbers don't support that.

A bunch of you are saying he's great, but where is the proof? Some highlights on Sportscenter? I'm not trying to be glib, but really, where is the proof?

i think this signing has rather positioned the Twins over the hump. i'm a Giants fan and that i used to be hoping they might get him, however the Angels have been considered one of my prominent franchises interior the final couple of years. anyhow i think Hunter supplies the Twins a flexible hitter. He hits for solid power, super elementary, and has the flexibility to stress in runs. He would desire to bat leadoff, cleanup, interior the three hollow or everywhere else. I even have faith the Twins even have the ideal offensive and protecting outfield in all of baseball. I advise think of of it defensively. Gary Matthews became into the 2d ideal centerfielder in my view final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days basically at the back of Hunter. Matthews will dominate leftfield actual, and Vlad has the top-rated arm in baseball i think. Vlad would desire to have the flexibility to steer the league in throwouts, and is an underrated fielder. for sure, offensively their outfield is super. Vlad and Tori are going to be a number of the ideal hitters this coming 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. Matthews has some pop in his bat besides. The Angels as a collection have a solid protection and pitching group, and now they'd desire to have an outstanding offense. I easily can see the Angels triumphing the international series and that i'm hoping they do. The Angels have continuously been a deferential franchise. The Angels have shown you do no longer would desire to spend 250 million funds on a participant like A-Rod to win a international series. that is why i'm hoping they do win a international series.

look at his stats he had like 25-30 homers about 80-90 rbis and a couple of sb Thats pretty good and 15m a year isnt top dollar, 30m is, ask a-rod lol. Hes a solid performer every year thats more valuable than a great year that wont happen again. Angels needed an extra bat to help them push farther in the playoffs. Also, defensive is everything, if they cant score you cant lose

He is a great DEFENSIVE player. He really is. I've seen him very frequently here in Minnesota, and he is indeed a top 2 or 3 defender in Center Field.
His hitting is very overrated, and he was helped out significantly by having Mauer, Cuddeyer and Moreneau around him in the lineup. Even then he had a tendency to over swing and not show enough patience.
I liked him, but personally I've very glad my Twins didn't do something silly like giving him $90 million. Let the Angels make the mistake.

From an offensive perspective, he's slightly above average at best. If any facet of his game helps out, it should be his defense.
His ability to get on base detracts from his offensive contributions. I think his plale discipline and patience is more that of a consistenlt 35-40 homerun slugger, which he isn't. I've always thought he didn't utlilize his full potential for that reason.
I'd classify him as a capable, useful player, but far from great.

You are correct that the numbers that he puts up are good, but not great. I think that the numbers reflect the last 9 years of playing in Minnesota with a roof and on turf. Bring that tallent to an open air field of grass and I think that we are going to be watching one helluva player. He is well worth the money and the expectations.

Tori Hunter is a great player, but I believe the Angels need another good bat in order to really improve their team. They upgraded with Hunter, but now they need another threat in their lineup. Just to let you know he's a pretty good hitter and an excellent fielder. What more can I say? He's not Guerrero, but he ain't no Rey Ordonez.

Yeah he adds the one thing that held back the Angels last yr. A big bat besides Guerrero and Anderson. Plus it allows them to keep Guerrero or Andersons bat in the lineup w/out losing D rather increasing it. He's the missing piece to theat puzzle

Yeah! He'll hit .290-.310 and the reason he never Ribbied over 100 is that Mauer would get cleared by Monreau and he'd come up bases empty.
