I think they'd have to part with either Pedroia or Ellsbury, along with two young pitching prospects.
Bucholz would likely be one of those pitching prospects, but I'm not sure whether the Twins would have a huge interest in Lester. Not that he isn't good or young (23), but he's got a couple of years of MLB service time, and the Twins would likely be happier getting someone who hasn't built up much time.

Unfortunately, you have to give up good young talent to get someone like Santana. Theres no way around it. I can live with losing Crisp (a proven veteran) or 1 of the young guys. But of all the young guys to offer, I don't mind parting with Lester or Bucholtz. Just don't trade Ellsbury. This guy is an all star in the making. I think he's going to be a solid hitter and defensive player for years and a very good replacement for Crisp. But the only way the Twins might accept a proposal from the Red Sox is if Ellsbury is included. Hopefully they'll be happy with taking Crisp (since they now need a center fielder with Hunter signing with the Angels), and Lester or Bucholtz. Whatever it takes except for Ellsbury. Adding Santana to the rotation with Becket, Schilling and Matsuzaka would be awesome.

Why in the name of all thats holy do they want Santana? If there is one thing the Red Sox don,t need is a starting pitcher. The Red Sox are NOT going after him!!!They need ashortstop and arightfielder more than a high priced LEFTHANDED pitcher in 310ft away from home plate green monster Fenway Park

If I were them,I'd trade for David Eckstein and get rid of Lugo---maybe Bucholtz and Wakefield for Eckstein,..Santana would not fit in the Sox rotation or Fenway. You need a shortstop!

They would have to give up Lester, Ellsbury, and maybe two good prospects. But Boston doesn't need Santana that much. They already have a good rotation, and they won't make that move because it would cost them too much talent.

hopefully nothing... santana is awful @ fenway... and not too good against the yankees either. Lester is a good enough lefty... we don't need to be trying to be the Yankees right now. keep our team intact and try and get another one... red sox are going to be more "Patriot-like".
