The short, butchered version of general relativity is as follows:

The staple of GR is the principle describing gravitation as a curvature in a geometric plane, termed "spacetime". The mass of matter effectively changes the shape of spacetime, an effect which could best be represented by rolling a heavy, round weight on top of a taught yet elastic knitted blanket. As the ball rolls around, the shape of the blanket changes and if there were other balls on the blanket (in our ideal simulation), they would roll towards the heavy ball at the center at a rate proportionate to that of the level of declination, and therein mass of the ball at the center.

GR also states that the laws of physics are the same for all observers, regardless of acceleration.
