A few strange things have happened there with my child as well as a guest or two that are now concerning me. I've tried looking thru local, state, and federal websites but all I seem to find are area statistics. I need specifics!

I believe the local courthouse may have records of who has owned your house before. A quick trip to the library can help you search for newspaper articles related to those people. Any local historical chapters can also give you some help as well. Good luck!

Absolutely.

- Find out when your house was built. What year? The year should be evident on your mortgage papers.

-Find out who the occupants were. Our local town has a website of all property exchanges. We can look up names of all people who owned the houses here. So far we are the second family in our house, so we purchased from the original owner. This was simple for us.

-Go to your local library and ask for the local news papers from the year that your house was built on. This will take a lot of time, but if it's already scanned or on micro, you can scan it a lot faster for your 1.address, 2. previous occupants, 3. suspicions (what you think happened).

Check Obits, ask neighbors and finally go to your local police department and ask them if there were any reported crimes involving your address. They might not have the time or inclination to help you so leave this as a last resort.

Good luck and happy hunting.

It would help to know more details. But just going on what you are saying....

Is there a reason you think it was a murder? Could it have just been a death in the home - natural causes, accidental? If you are experiencing a ghost - it could also be the spirit of someone killed outside your home so, like a previous responder you should start with town clerks office and your local library or historical society.

Many times we experience strange goings on and we want explanations. It seems like you are open to believing and those folks are more likely to receive a spirit. If your child is
a pre-teen or teen you could have a poltergeist.

Keep us posted!

You need to investigate the old fashioned way. Go to your local library and look up on microfish. Check out the deeds and past newspaper articles. Ask some older locals in your community what may have occured.....Good Luck!!

A lot of the answers here are great. It's true that county offices should have records. But what if the death took place before the property was zoned?

If all else fails, try an Ouija Board...

GO TO THE COURT HOUSE AND DO A LAND AND TITLE SEARCH.
RUN THE PREVIOUS OWNERS NAMES THROUGH A COMPUTER-NEWSPAPER ARTICLES CHECK.
MAY BE THE SUPERNATURAL WAS KILLED BEFORE THE HOUSE WAS BUILT.WE BOUGHT LAND IN THE COUNTY 40 YEARS AGO AND HEARD NOISES ON THE PROPERTY AT NIGHT. WE FOUND OUT 3 SAILORS RAPED AND MURDERED A YOUNG TEEN IN 1943 AND LEFT HER TO ROT TILL SHE WAS FOUND, ONLY BONES SOME 10 YEARS LATER WHEN THE AREA WAS BEING ENLARGED FOR DEVELOPMENT.

I'm not trying to shove my reliogn down your throat, but if you believe in God you should pray and listen to your gut instincts. if you find something unusual like a loose wood panel, check it out. also pay attention to your dreams. a little research wouldn't hurt either. try the library records or have a perfessonial do a background check on your house.

Call your local police department. Most departments keep crime statistics by address.
