the marriage vows have almost become '...till divorce do we part' rather than 'till death do we part' these days.

When considering marriage in today's society, I agree that an apparent majority of people consider divorce too easy an outlet of marriage rather than work out problems for the sake of a vow between two people and God.

Unfortunately, Yes I agree. It seems like a lot of people don't take their vows as seriously as they once did. And since there isn't as much stigma attached to being divorced, it seems the easy way out for a lot of people. I believe divorce is ok, as long as both people tried hard to resolve their differences and repair their relationship. I feel divorce should be a last resort and a lot of people aren't exhausting all their resources first before filing for divorce.

The vows should be taken very seriously when said, but unfortunately, not everyone does stay together until death do they part!
They wouldn't have been the vows of ancient Egyptian kings, because when they died, their wives and servants were expected to follow them in death, to their version of the afterlife!

true

almost 60% of marriages now end in divorce. Out of all the married people I know, my parents and grandparents are the only ones who have only been married to each other.

My boyfriends father marries every woman he looks at. Luckily my boyfriend has seen what it's like to be the child and have different mothers and fathers so he wants to get married and stay married. I am only getting married once and only have children by 1 man. So my marriage better work.

ell the times have changed as da poet said quite well. Even as little as 50 years ago many people stayed in terrible marriages because they where brought up to do so. The 60's changed all that. I personally believe that we have but one life to live here and the true goal should be to be HAPPY as much as possible in this life. I would rather my children, friends, family see me happy, then not. It would impact them either way. "To ones self be true"

I must agree, there are so many divorces these days. Its because in the past, people would never get divorced even if they were unhappy. Now people aren't afraid of divorce, so they are more inclined to rush into marriage because they know they can always break it. As well as people in unhappy marriages are more likely to split.

You are right...........they should really say that now instead of "death do us part".............sometimes people try though & it just doesn't work. For me my ex didn't show his true side until a few yrs into the marriage. Then he became verbally abusive & controlling & it was miserable. I take mariage seriously always have but that was not a good situation.
I do agree w/ your statement though.

True 100% but that doesn't chnage anything. No one listens to the vows.
