Actually, bettas can be kept safely with other fish as long as the other fish do not have large amounts of finnage. Bettas react to large, showy fins. They do not attack these fish to eat them, they attack them because they feel threatened by them.

So look for a fish that likes the same tank conditions as a betta and does not have large fins. I would also recommend choosing a fish that is larger than the betta and not known for being aggressive.

Oh, and as a side note, FEMALE betta are usually a lot less agressive than male bettas and can be kept more easily with other fish and other female bettas. However, they cannot be kept with males long-term, only temporarily for breeding (and with supervision). But they aren't as pretty as the males.

HI Misscutie, It really would be in your pets best interests to keep your Goldfish & your Betta separated so you will need 2 tanks-a large one at least 20 gallons for your 2 Goldies & a smaller one at least 3 gallons for your Betta. Both of these tanks need to have fitted lids & filters for your fish to be happy.

Rather than me boring you with a list of reasons why the 2 types are not compatible check out the 2 links below-they should be very useful.

no longer a solid theory. in basic terms purchase a 5 gallon tank for the betta for >$20.00. Bettas rather must be in a tank with a minimum of 10 gallons, as they're tropical fish that want a heater. in basic terms using fact puppy shops save them in cups(this is quite merciless via the way) would not advise you need to to. you are able to attempt it, however the mass ammonia produced via the Goldfish will kill the betta, or the betta will kill the goldfish. desire I helped. solid success

The water will either be too cold for the Betta,or too warm for the Goldfish. You need not believe me, look it up.

NO.

Goldfish = cold water with lots of aeration and filtration.

Betta = warm water with minimal water flow.

They need to be in their own separate and appropriate tanks.
