The ancient Maya actually came from the near future of 2043. They traveled back in time to try to start over as a more prosperous people. With them they brought recordings of the past. This is how their "predictions" on their calendar are correct. Indeed, by 2012 a pathetic excuse of a civilization will be the only thing left other than the beasts that walk this earth. According to the Maya, the Giant Panther and Eagle spirits will come together and wreak havoc upon humanity for becoming what it is today.
I hope this helps.

First of all, the Mayan calendar only predicts that there will only be a revelation (apocalypse) and a new way of spiritual thinking will emerge. We will all be able to witness something divine to take place and there will be a great spiritual energy. What they said sounds crazy, but "oh well", I don't know what they are saying either, lol
My true theory is that Ahmadinejad (president of Iran who wants to destroy Isreal) or another person (antichrist) will destroy Isreal in 2012, when this happens Jesus will come down with angels and fight. A new age will come where Jesus rules the earth.
The mayans also believe that their will be a blank age before this will happen, where two different things can happen based on our actions some people believe that it started in 1992 and some believe that it will start in 2008 and it is said that during this "blank age" that we are co-creators of our future destiny. Either the one above or global warming, sadly.....yep we are going for global warming, damn!
....maybe next time

The only thing that for sure will happen is that another year will come and go. I have heard rumors that our solar system is going to line up with the black hole at the center of our galaxy. But the likely hood of the world coming to an end because of that event that may or may not be true is very slime since the center of the galaxy is approximately 30 thousand light years away and no natural phenomenon can move faster than light. So even if we did line up with the black hole and it started to pull us into it, it will take thousands of years for that to happen. And Nostradamus's prophecies don't end until 2055. So what will happen in 2012? Most likely nothing out of the ordinary.

Personally, I don't believe that anything will happen in 2012 that will show these prophecies to be real. However, there are some very interesting coincidences in terms of the year and the date of December 21, 2007. I also think that people's views about prophecy can certainly influence what happens. Meaning if they believe it, they might take actions to make it come true. Here's a quote from a Wikipedia article on 2012:
"2012 is sometimes claimed to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse). Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.
Accordingly, several eclectic authors claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:
* The 1995 book The Mayan Prophecies linked the Maya calendar with long-period sunspot cycles.
* The book 2012: Mayan Year of Destiny claims the Maya may have been instructed in their wisdom by disembodied entities from Orion and the Pleiades. Contact was maintained through shamanic rituals conducted in accordance with the movements of planets and stars. However, some Mayan priests living and working in Guatemala assert that there is no legitimacy to this theory.
* The 1997 book The Bible Code claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, a meteor, asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth.
* The book The Nostradamus Code speaks of a series of natural disasters caused by a comet (possibly as above) that will allow the third Antichrist to disperse his troops around the globe under the guise of aid in preparation for a possible nuclear war, although in the strictest sense it is unspecific as to nuclear war or some other natural or man caused destruction.
* The book The Orion Prophecy claims that the Earth's magnetic field will reverse.
* The 2005 book Beyond 2012: Catastrophe or Ecstasy by Geoff Stray reviews several theories, prophecies and predictions concerning 2012 and finds where authors have used faulty information or have bent the truth to fit their theories.
* The 2006 book 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck discusses theories of a possible global awakening to psychic connection by the year 2012, creating a noosphere.
* The 2007 book Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation into Civilization's End by Lawrence Joseph does not make any specific new predictions, but it reviews a number of 2012 predictions made by various sources, and presents arguments for the possible existence of dangerous positive feedback loops involving solar storms, Earth's magnetic field, cosmic rays, hurricanes, global warming, earthquakes, and supervolcanoes that may be on the verge of erupting.
Other prophecies and apocalyptic writings and hypotheses for this year include:
* Terence McKenna's mathematical novelty theory suggests a point of singularity in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.
* Some proponents of a peak oil catastrophe place major events in 2012. Richard C. Duncan's book The Peak of World Oil Production and the Road To The Olduvai Gorge claims that the Olduvai cliff will begin and permanent blackouts will occur worldwide. Several studies predict a peak in oil production in or around 2012. [13][14][15]
* Some alien-enthusiasts (e.g. Riley Martin), along with some new-agers, believe 2012 to correspond approximately with the return of alien "watchers" or "caretakers" who might have helped the first human civilizations with developing their technology and may have been waiting for us to reach a higher level of technological and/or social advancement. Beliefs range from the extra-terrestrials having benevolent purposes — such as to help human society evolve — to malevolent purposes — such as enslavement of mankind and/or manipulation.
* There is a Hindu following indicating the appearance of an Avatar (God in human form) with God-like powers who will herald a new age. A website to this effect appears at: End of the World 2012."
Lots of people and lots of cultures have thought that this will be a very important year.

OK OK..time for some enlightenment
Our solar system is moving into a new position in the universe, and in so doing traverses the Photon Belt. (For those who know astronomy u know about how the solar system is at right angles to the milky way etc.) The stars will appear to "fall from the sky" - as we pass them by, for it is our solar system which is moving, not these stars.
There's been a lot of controversy as to when this will occur but now some scientists are beginning to think the entry into the Photon Belt is what the so called "2012 end of the world" prophesy is about.
Recent studies claim entry into the 'photon belt of the milky way' is due anytime after the year 2000 so cld the ancient mayans be refering to this?
whatever the case we live to see:)

I don't really understand where all the fear is coming from. The Mayans Calendar, which is not predicting the end of the world in 2012, but the start of a new era on December 21st, 2012. The year 2012 marks the end of the "Great Cycle." When it came to mathematics, time and calendars, the Maya were geniuses. Believing that time repeated itself in cycles.
Why do the Americans prefer to leave in fear 24/7? Didn't we already go thru this "the world is coming to an end in 2000?"

just a bunch predicted natural disasters. Not really the end of the world, just a dimming of the human population. All the natural disasters occuring now are just the beginning of what will a series of earth changes leading up to the solarstorm and planetary alignment that astrologers have predicted will hit us in 2012.People need to remember that a end world prophecy does'nt have to be some biblicaltype event or armageddon or apocalypse.Natural disasters such as eruptions, earthquakes, and psunami's can wipe us out easily without having anything to do with ancient prophecies.

In 2012,I'm not sure.
In 2025 or 2030 there will be an earthquake.
In10 years a volcano will blow up.
In about 2700 or 3000 Russia will divide into 4 or 6 parts and ALL of North and Sount America will divide into 7 or 8 pieces.
Hope I helped!

I don't know, but I have watched several documents on this subject and would love to live until December of 2012 to see what happens.
Throughout the years, many people and religious sects have proclaimed they knew when the world was to end, and nothing happened. But, seeing as several ancient objects and prophets have given that particular time, I can't wait to see.

Load of old baloney. All of these type of 'predictions' are only realised after an event has occured when those that believe in all that trash can fit the circumstances around the 'prediction'. Believe what you like, just don't expect me,or countless others ,take any notice.
