Would this trip be fun? Or too much nothingness out there?? How long would it take? What other trips would you suggest in Oz for this summer?

How long do you want it to take - I would say 2 days to Broken Hill 1 day to Cameron Corner 1 day to Inanaminka 1 day to Birdsville 1 day to Maree 1 day to Coober Pedy 1 day to Oodinatta 1 day to Alice Springs - but that's just because is loosely based on our itinerary. You must carry a lot of water if you intend to travel in the summer - for the vehicle not just you

Any road trip in Australia is fun. but you must be prepared with plenty of water spares for the car. Going in Summer will be hot hot and stiffling hot. There's never a lot of nothingness. It's a relieve to drive into a town to see whats happening there. and out back can be interesting seeing wildlife stopping on the road side for a cuppa . Coober Pedy is a must to see . Very interesting

Good advice from other posters above, but also make sure roads you wish to travel on are accessable at the time by contacting the NRMA etc. Another beautiful drive in Oz is from Melbourne to Adeliade via the Great Ocean Road. Maybe one yr in Adelaide you could head north to get to Alice ands Uluru.

Why are you going to Alice Springs? Isn't that an isolated place where there's nothing but a top secret communications facility?
