Since you didn't ask anything about on center, but that 1 and 2 gave you correct info; you can assume 14.5 inches between studs.
STANDARD should be considered certainly, but as Humans we might be off fractionally when we install.
IF in fact you're at a corner, you might assume a double stud, installed at a 90 to the adjacent wall. Measuring from the corner; if the construction was proper; you might assume that an approx. center of the next stud is 18 1/4 inch from a corner, than all subsequent are 16 on center.

If all else fails use a finishing nail and patch any oops
ADDED THOUGHT: I use studs that vary often from 1 1/2 to 1 5/8 etc.

The standard is 16 inch centres. However in some cases it may be on 24" centres.
You may be able to find the studs by tapping the wall with your hand and listen to the sound. Between the studs the sound will be hollow and over a stud it will be a solid sound.
A new stud finder can be purchased for under $12.00

Actually its 16" on center for exterior walls and sometimes on interior walls but a lot of home builders will put the interior walls 24"'s on center to save on lumbar and cost. The size that is used is mainly 2" X 4" on interior and either 2" X 4" or 2" X 6" on exterior walls. but a 2" X 4" is not always that size. In Fact today it is actually 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" Years ago it use to be 1 3/4" X 3 3/4" and before that they were true 2" X 4" : )

In last 30 years or so, 16" on center is standard, but they may be on the rare occasion 24". In attic spaces, like a bonus room sometimes 24". Older homes, sometimes, it is best guess.
I'd try 16", but no promises. Sometimes you can make an educated guess where studs are by looking at the wall receptacles. Usually the box is nailed to a stud, but once again if older home, it may be a remodel box. So good luck in your detective work.
