Not technically, although most schools and non retail businesses traditionally take the Friday after Thanksgiving off, many retail stores, banks and post offices are still open.

It is on my calendar... I think it is should be because it is a nationwide tradition to gather outside like an angry mob just to freeze to death waiting for them to open the doors to your favorite department store while you race in and fight off whoever lays eyes on the item that completes your mission. It is the one day a year that us women get our exercise. We train all year to be fit for this day... All hail The Day After Thanksgiving!!!

no its not a technical holiday but black friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year and its pretty much a commercial holiday

Not officially! Although some businesses and some doctors offices make it one, they make it an extended holiday.

I was surprised to find Publix closed yesterday! I did find Winn-Dixie open.
