Current rumors indicate that the Red Sox are the most interested in Santana, if for no other reason than to keep the Yankees from signing him. Personally, I don't think NY is as willing to give up as much as the Sox are to get him.

The Twins have already inquired about Clay Bucholz and Jacob Ellsbury plus other top prospects. I think the more realistic trade would include Coco Crisp and either Bucholz or Jon Lester, in return the Sox would pick up Santana and one or two minor leaguers.

If Theo Epstein had just let Schilling go it would have been the Red Sox.

Now, I think it would be the Yankees. The whole point of this offseason was to improve pitching. If Cashman is smart, he will go after Santana. They have the money and players to do so.

but....

The Red Sox organization goes to great lengths to keep players away from New York. An example would be Eric Gagne, Daisuka Matsuzaka, etc. If Santana leaves, it will be very interesting to see.

Santana does not become a free agent until after the 2008 season so the Twins have some time to do everything they can to resign him, and I believe they will make every effort to do so.
