Scourge...thank you the OBVIOUS answer but since my husband isn't going to be sticking his nipple in my baby's mouth and I want him to be involved in feedings I'd like to know what bottle would be best...maybe next I should be more clear to avoid obnoxious smart alec answers huh?

I have Playtex Avent bottles - they leak so they don't get used. I have drop ins, pain in the butt if you ask me so they sit in the cupboard. Mostly I use my Gerber and the dollar store bottles and an eclectic collection of souvenir bottles (state of michigan, Kinderbottle, etc...) as long as they are clearly marked for measuring water and my Gerber nipples and rings fit on them they work. As someone else said, as long as you keep the nipple full and don't let them suck air and make sure the nipple is fully in their mouth (their lips should touch the ring so if baby is a newborn make sure to get newborn (Stage 1) nipples as they are smaller), burp them every oz and you are good to go. Most of the air comes either from the formula it's self or the way the baby is sucking on the bottle.
Remember the fancier the bottle with more parts the harder they are to clean/sterilize. Also the bigger chance they don't get put together right. Yes I know the Avent bottles have this so called sweet spot for tightening the bottom and the top to prevent leakage but at 3 am when baby is screaming I don't have time to find it LOL.

I used avent, but if you're going back and forth the best is the haberman feeder, it is very much like the breast and the child controls the flow like the breast so there is less chance of nipple confusion. Just because someone uses a bottle, doesnt mean they are using formula. I support your decision and all of these people with the breastfeeding and criticizing people for not is getting out of hand. Some things are beyond a mother's control. Also, plenty of mothers pump and bottle feed what they pump. Sorry to vent, I hope I answered your question.

We've used Avent bottles since he was little (he's 6 months now). We had some trouble in the early months with leaking, but it could have been user error. :) With the faster flow nipples, we've never had a leak or issue as he has gotten older.
They have nipples that grow with the baby, which is very convenient. And they do seem to keep the air in the bottle and out of the tummy.

LOL...loved your response!!!
As for bottles...I've used Advent, Evenflo, Medela and dollar store glass bottles. I really didn't have a preference....if you DO plan on nursing....see if one or more come with your pump. I had a medela pump and it came with two bottles....ALSO...since most pumps can fit onto a narrow necked bottle...you might want to get those types of bottles...otherwise you'll be spending more dish washer detergent and time to clean the bottles that are attached to your pump...and then dump into another bottle.
And if you are formula feeding....the "less gas" bottles etc are kinda a gimic...as long as the nipple stays full during the feeding the baby won't get anymore gas than with the AireFlow Vent (or whatever they call it). My children have had to either be on formula or supplement with formula...and they didn't have any more gas than my exclusively breast-fed child.

I breastfeed but my husband uses the bottle when I am at work- or he did until she was 8 months old. The only bottle she would take were the Dr. Brown's bottle. We tried one of every brand but that was the only one she liked. I liked them because they never leaked and when we tried the Avent- they leaked on occasion.
I really didn't want her to like the Dr. Brown's because there are 5 parts per bottle, but it was not a big deal in the end to wash. I just put the parts in the dishwasher and washed the "straw" part in the sink with my pump supplies. Not a big deal at all.
Good luck in your search!

Avent are fantastic! My bub has never had trouble with wind and i can pretty much count on my two hands the amount of times he has brought anything up and hes almost 4 months! They're anti colic ones - i wont be using any other brand of bottle for any other bubs we have!

Playtex works great. You have to check into what bottles have used polycarbonate in the manufacturing of the plastic that contains bisphenol A. Literature today says to stay away from bisphenol A (PBA) which is found in many baby bottles.
Hope this helps!

once I started bottle feeding I used the playtex ones with the disposable liners...the baby got less air bubbles and I felt they were more sterile.

I like playtex with the bag inserts. They keep air out and the baby doesn't have to be proped up. They are also convenient cleaning wise, and more sanitary than regular bottles.
