I'm getting a betta for a friend (he knows about it and wants it, he keeps fish already) and have a limited budget. I can either get him a 1-2 gallon glass tank (with filter, heater and everything) or get a 4-5 gallon plastic one (with filter, heater and everything).

The difference is, the 4-5 gallon is twice the size and half the price...

I definitely want to get the larger tank, but I've heard it's hard to heat the tank?

It's gonna be powered by one of those tiny 7.5w heaters, so it's not gonna get hot enough to hurt the plastic, even where it's attached is it?

Yes, you can heat a 5 gallon plastic tank. If the water is hot enough to melt the plastic, its too hot for the fish.

Get a 5 gallon tank and buy a 25watt heater for it
There is no way that you can heat a 1-2 gallon glass bowl or mini tank because the heat will fluctate way to much

Just go for the bigger one, it will also make you much happier
On a 5 gallon you also only need to do partial waterchanges of 25% weekly, whereas in a tiny tank you will need to do it like every 2-3 days

Hope that helps
Good luck
