I'm looking for a medium tooth but I don't know what size they are I think its abbreviated (gsm). What pound should I get also?

Depends on what kind : number of pencil you are using and what look you are after. Start with a soft pencil, charcoal maybe. Use a medium textured paper.Be free and don't judge yourself harshly. Heavy texture is used mostly for pastels. An inexpensive artist sketchbook is the best place to start.

everybody likes different things, if you like detailing get a smoother paper, if you like sketchy work or 'scawling' (this is what I do in my sketch book I think the word is made up) then get a rougher paper.
I use a standard, 8 1/2 x 11 sized sketch book, hard cover for most stuff spiral bound for sketching at the subway station or at the mall.
I like a rougher paper because I don't get into details much I use animation paper for my finer work and detailed sketches/ refined drawings.

Make sure you try all types, you may find that you actually like the ultra smooth hot press papers out there.
