Does it have a limiter in it?Are the limiters in the ECM.I found that it has one and trips the motor at 100mph are their others at a higher torque or do I just need plugs and a fuel filter?

I have a 98 cav rs and it does the same. we put in new plugs, they seemed to go bad

If you floor it without the car in gear, it will cut out at about 4000RPM.

If you floor it in gear, it will cut out at 6000RPM.

There is also a speed limiter (but is usually at 120MPH).

If the engine is cutting out at random, I would suspect the ignition coils. There are three of these buggers on the front of the engine and each power two spark plugs. They are expensive and generally only last about 100,000 miles.

But check the plugs and wires first and run some injector cleaner through the engine. Also if your fuel pump is failing it will cause this (listen for a loud whirring sound under the rear seat, a good sign of a pump going).

Yes there is a rev limiter, 4,000 rpm in park or neutral. It's programmed into the memcal (prom). Yes, it controls maximum speed to 100 MPH. for your protection and to protect other drivers.

There are aftermarket proms that raise this speed and rev limiter, but I'd be pretty careful selecting one of these as it might damage the motor.
