Does anyone ever feel guilty when they get christmas trees?

I just took down 5 small trees for decoration at my mom's request... and now I feel terrible. I just killed 5 trees... 5 innocent, living parts of nature, now dead, not for firewood or anything significant to my survival... just to make my house look better. Just to celebrate a holiday that has just about lost all of it's meaning in the world anyway. We're not even going to water these trees, we'll just stick them in a pot and let them die. I can't help but feel terrible.

It's actually better to get a real one. Most evergreens are planted on land that is unsuitable for farming. Cutting them doesn't permanently destroy animals' habitats, and planting them releases oxygen into the air, which benefits the environment. Plastic and metal trees aren't biodegradable, so they're just waste.

let him go once and see what happens. if its not good then tell him to quit the job and find a new one.since you are not really desperate financially... It isn't worth the heart ache or the aggravation. My husband used to be a truck driver. It got to the point that my 3 kids did not even know who he was. You are not being selfish. I finally told my husband to either find another job or I couldn't stay. Money is not everything. He can always find a job closer to home. My husband found one closer and is making more money.You are not being selfish by no means. It isn't selfish when you are looking out for the welfare of your family. Good Luck. This will only lead to more problems. Instead, tell him how much more you want and need him at home. That being away so often is hurting you emotionally and physically. If you really can't trust him to be with his "often drunk coworkers" and not end up in bed with another woman, then this marriage is going to have some serious problems. You have to do your part and put your trust in him. Don't assume that he will be unfaithful to you, otherwise you will drive him. Think about it this way : Would you rather be away from you husband 90% of the time and be great financially or would you rather be with him and be okay ? Your kids need their daddy. It's hard when my dad goes away, for all of us, and it would be hard on them. I say, just stay where he is. Maybe ask for a raise, but don't be working away for too long. You could always up and move, if the money was really good. But that's not easy either.

It is a bit sad to cut down trees for just a short amount of time. A lot of Christmas tree farms plant trees to replace those that are cut. Some trees can be recycled. Cities in the U.S. handle this all differently, but most are mulched and used for lawn and garden mulching in the spring and summer.

You may want to look into replanting some seedlings after you cut the trees down. Your local County Extension Office may be able to offer you more advice.

Don't feel bad. Renew them. Plant new ones in their place and it will make you feel better and you'll enjoy the ones you cut more.

And, my dear, please enjoy the season. Just remember what is it REALLY all about and then have fun with it.

If christmas loses it's meaning with you, you've let it. It's meaning can only stay alive if you keep it.

Merry Christmas and have some hot chocolate. It will make you feel better and get to planting those new saplings. It's ok to take from the land if you replenish what you take.

LOL OMG just think about it this way. If no one ever cut down trees even to jut throw away we wouldnt be able to walk or drive or do anything we do. Trees woudl over populate. Do you get upset when you drive your gas car? Do you get upset when you eat meat, kill a fly etc...
