Hi, My husband and I are TTC and With my ovulation approaching anyday , I am hoping to become pregnant, so it can be our own little Christmas Miracle... I'm 34 and my Husband is 39 and we have no children so our clock is tic tocing away. But my question is, If I do become pregnant, would it be safe for my Dr to run an Ultrasound. I would be almost 6 weeks pregnant by then? I would want to give one of the Ultrasound Pics to My Mom and His Parents for a christmas gift. I just wouldnt want to do anything harmful....

Hi,
Ultrasounds are not harmful but I don't think you will be given a scan until at least 12 or so weeks. However, if you have had other pregnancies that sadly did not go full term or any other complications then there may be a chance of having a scan earlier.
If you do want a reassurance scan and you know you won't be getting on from an NHS hospital then you may be able to book one for yourself from a local private hospital, it won't be cheap mind!
Or another nice way of explaining your pregnancy at Christmas is by this poem!
I do not have a face to see,
Or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss,
I don't yet have a name.
You can't yet hold my tiny hands, 'nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song, or cuddle me so near.
But all will change come summer time,
That’s when they say I'm due.
I'll be your new grandchild; I can't wait till I meet you.
All I ask between now and then is your patience while I grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait, because of all the love we'll know.
So have a Merry Christmas
A wish to you from me.
I cannot wait to be a part
Of this great family!
I feel it so cute and used it to tell my parents I was pregnant, I changed word to Happy Anniversary as it was their silver wedding anniversary!
Good luck!
Lx

Ultrasound has been used on pregnant women for more than 30 years. Studies continue to make sure ultrasound is safe. So far, there is no reason to think that it harms mothers or babies. As with all medical tests, the benefits must always be greater than the risks. Health Canada regulates ultrasounds in Canada through two laws: the Medical Devices Regulations of the Food and Drugs Act and the Radiation Emitting Devices Act. This helps to ensure that ultrasounds are safe when used for medical reasons. The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and Health Canada have produced guidelines on diagnostic ultrasound. They state that ultrasound should not be used for any of these reasons:
• to have a picture of the baby, solely for non-medical reasons
• to learn the sex of the baby, solely for non-medical reasons
• for commercial use, such as trade shows or making videos of a baby

They would probably do an internal ultrasound. They did that with me, to find out how far along I was because I had no clue when I had really conceived.

if you did conceive ,yes it would be safe to do an ultrasound,
but there would not be anything to see at only 6 weeks,if you do conceive in the first month of trying then you will be one of the lucky ones as most try for ages, this is my 6th month of trying
good luck

ultrasound isnt harmful to the baby, but there has to be good reason to have an ultrasound before the 12 week scan, so unless you have had a miscarriage before or anything like that, then it is unlikely you can have an ultrasound before xmas

Ultrasounds are considered safe and they are routine. It would be fine.
