When I do the grocery shopping, I am careful to check the sell by dates, especially when I pick up things like milk. No sense in buying something that's set to expire within just a day or two. I'm also careful to look at the packages behind the ones in front, as they'll having sell-by dates that are more reasonable.

Always ans at all times, most importantly the tasty, bread, eggs, all dairy products....I love doing grocery which I learned a lot from my wife....it is my most relaxing moment....rounding up the whole premises of grocery...reading most of the time contents and comparing cost advantages. Grocery is a real on the spot engineering ans accounting works...not only buying spree. Very relaxing...

I don't think my husband ever checks it... As for me, it depends on the item. Milk? I check every time. Bread too, since it lasts about a week. Junk food? I never check. So I'd say about 70% of my purchases I check the date.

erm... im a gal and I never check! I kinda know how long things are supposed to last and I would hope that the supermarkets are not selling out of date stuff! It's the use by date on the stuff in my fridge that needs to be worried about!

LOL you shouldn't depend on us. We don't usually check. At least I don't. I look at the eggs and sometimes the milk but usually I just hurry through and then looks at the power tools and electronics. That's me though! But you shouldn't rely on your man if you're worried about "Use By" lol. Anyway if you want you can warn him...Tell him "check the use by thing!"

Nah, only on perishables. Most things last a hell of a lot longer than the suggested "use by" date and i don't mean things in tins etc, i talking about general goods.

Depends. I usually check milk and other things that look like they've been there for a decade. As for things like soap, toothpaste and stuff, I generally don't.
