Actually, it happens 4 times in a 28 year cycle, because of leap years and all. The next time thanksgiving falls on 11/22, will be in 5 years, because 08 is a leap year (11/24), and so is '12 (11/22).

The assassination happened on Friday, 11/22. This was NOT the day after Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving that year fell on the following Thursday, 11/28. I remember it all VIVIDLY as if it had happened last week! We were sent home from school on the 22nd (I was in 5th grade). Normally we would have returned to school the following Monday but due to the events and the fact that the funeral took place on Monday, schools were closed all Thanksgiving week that year (something that was not the norm back then). We went back to school the Monday after Thanksgiving.

I am in the UK and at the time I heard about John F Kennedy's assassination I was sitting at home watching the television. There was a news programme on at the time, it was around 1830 hours, and the news reader announced that there was reports that President Kennedy had been shot. He did not have any further details but would keep us informed, a little while later he announced that President Kennedy had been shot and killed. It seems an simple word to say, shock was the first thing, shocked that someone should shoot a good man like President Kennedy. The President had a lot to live for and he would have probably gone on to bigger and better things for his country. After the shock, you think, why, who, and then feel sad for someone you only know in the newspapers or on the television had died. Then of course the man who shot President Kennedy, was shot himself, it was turning into a plot for a film not real life. You just felt sadness that the President was dead and he had left behind a wife and a family, and the whole nation of the USA to mourn their President, all well as others around the world.

Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday in November. The date changes from year to year. I know it didn't happen on Thanksgiving Day because I was in school when it happened.
