during a rebellion what would constitute as an ideological basis of resistance. i.e religious beliefs..... what other factors would count as ideological.

Morals are another example, and politics.

Morals can and do exist outside of religion. People can believe that the genocide of races is wrong without being religious. So, people could have chosen to rebel since they thought something being done by the power over them was wrong.

Politics is a huge one. Communism is a form of ideology. The entire Bolshevik revolution was based on ideology.
