seriously, driving stoned is less dangerous than driving drunk, or even driving tired. Science is your friend.

Have you smoked pot?

How did it make you feel?

Are you willing to pass and enforce safe smoking driving laws in every state to ensure non-pot-smokers safety?

What age would you make it legal, my kid tries to smoke it at 15, his friend gives it to his brother who is 11, is that too young? When is it too young to smoke, it is all natural, right?

What would be the next drug that you would want to legalize?

If you legalize it in one state and not another, how will you control the distribution?

Okay, based on the above questions.. I vote...NO!

There's only ONE reason I can think of. I tried it one evening, back in the '70s, and while driving home at 45 mph, I perceived my speed as being about 25. If it has that affect on drivers, it HAS to be dangerous. And if legal, many more people than now WOULD be driving under its influence.

And they say that today's pot is far stronger than that of 35 years ago. So what would a driver's perception of speed be like, NOW?

If marijuana were legalized there would be fewer people in jail, we could focus on treatment which costs a fraction of what incarceration does, saving the tax payers money, it could be regulated by the FDA for purity of product resulting in fewer deaths and could be taxed like cigarettes and alcohol which would create revenue for the government.
However, the same people who have now essentially privatized our prisons are the same people who pushed for the "three strikes and you're out" laws which push mandatory sentencing for third time offenders. While I think this law should be applied to some criminals, drug use is a victimless crime and should be treated as a disease as alcoholism is. But whenever there's money to be made or that will be lost, those who have a vested interest in keeping their money are going to do whatever they can to make sure they stay as rich as they can. The more people in prison, the more money they make.
And let's not forget the pharmaceutical industry that makes the pharmaceutical equivalent of marijuana and its effects and so many other drugs. They want you to buy THEIR drugs, not the illegal ones that have the same effects. With all of these industries and special interest groups involved I doubt you'll see any legalized drugs any time soon .

Because if you legalize it then the price would go down and I wouldn't make near as much money.
Then there are all the people I would have to lay off because if it were legal I could use standard import procedures and would cut staff by 50% to 75%.
More unemployement.

Then think of all the people invloved in the war on drugs that if they weren't looking for Pot they could concentrate on the more serious deadly drugs.

You are right. In any case Prohibition has never worked whether in the case of alcohol or drugs. We are wasting billions of dollars, and more importantly lives because of this. The profits are so huge, countries are being destroyed as a consequence, for example Columbia. In the case of Narijuana it is ridiculous to waste money on prisons police and. courts. Why give recreational users a criminal record? Hard core addicts who are out of control need treatment and not punishment. Problem profits for the dealers as well as the politicians, cops, judges, prisons, etc.

Driving sober is the safest of all. There is no reason to legalize pot. Sobriety is your friend, especially behind the wheel.

Because by the time the people sober up we'll be living in a dictatorship.

I don't really agree with driving stoned, but I am all for legalization

Sam F, we need only one reason to legalize marijuana. Tax revenue isn't relevant, whether it is good or bad for you isn't relevant, whether many or few want it isn't relevant.

Simply put, what I choose to put in my body is none of the government's business. Who owns my body? I do. If I am not harming another, I should be free to use marijuana.

I can't stand the smell of it, though.

why the drug war is too profitable for wealthy people. they would never concede to decreasing their profits by legalizing it, after all the purpose for making it illegal was to legalize destroying competitors in the market thus creating more of a monoploy on it by those in charge, bankers, politicians, cia agents etc. if they legalized it, marijauna is one drug you can grow yourself, and you won't need to buy from them thus it would deminish their market share, less profits.
