If you are using this for gardening then make sure you treat the part that will go into the ground or use treated wood. But buying stakes are not that expensive from a place like home depot. And you can get round stakes then.

A saw. Cut the point by making 45 degree cuts at the bottom on all 4 sides if the wood is square or on two sides if it is rectangular.

Is this to be something as practical and simple as a stake to hold conrete slab framing? OR is it more along the lines of vampire hunting? :)

Use a saber saw or hand saw and cut down a sharp angle on all four sides pretending as if it were a pencil and you were sharpening it.
