I tried to induce with Castor oil when I was pregnant with my daughter and it caused to her have a bowel movement in utero. When my water broke it contained meconium and it caused her to have some respiratory distress. She was my first child and I did not even get to hold her after birth because she was taken to the Special Care Nursery. Don't induce with Castor oil. It is not safe. Whatever the personal circumstances are it is not worth possibly endangering your baby. Try nipple stimulation instead or talk to your Dr. about your options such as stripping your membranes. Good Luck :)

See the link below for expert answers on trying to start labor naturally... .

It says that taking castor oil makes you have diarrhea which can make you dehydrated. It's very important to not get dehydrated before trying to give birth since that affects the uterus and causes the mother much more pain in giving birth. It also doesn't work... conditions have to be just right for cramps from diarrhea to cause labor cramping but it doesn't cause the labor cramping in the first place, it's just some people took the oil at the time they were getting ready to go into labor anyway. Read the link below, it has a lot of myths expelled on what works/what doesn't!

Dont take castor oil, holyshit. It'll give you cramps and the runs and dehydrate you, and just make you sick. It doesnt kickstart labor unless labor has already begun.

I dont know how personal your circumstances are, but if they were serious your doctor would induce you. As it is, your baby releases hormones when its able to thrive outside of the womb, which causes your labor to start. Doing it before that process begins probably isnt a good idea. A few more days isnt going to kill you.

If you just cant be patient and give your baby the time it obviously needs, try nipple stimulation. Just rub both nipples and pinch them for 20 minutes at a time every hour or so. It WILL get some serious contractions going WITHOUT hurting your body or making you sick.

In my opinion, castor oil is the devil. It will give you diarrhea. It might not even put you into labor. And if it does put you into labor, then you get the cramping from the diarrhea on top of labor pains. Icky. Go for a walk, have an orgasm by yourself (if you're comfortable with that sort of thing). Part of the reason they tell you to have sex is because orgasm can sometimes start contractions. But honestly, nothing you do will make baby come unless he or she is ready, they're stingy like that. Good luck to you!

NO Castor oil! Try nipple stimulation! or even I've read somewhere that eggplant/chicken Parmesan will kick start pregnancy lol it's better than Castor oil to try... that **** will give you the runs and chances are it won't make you go into labor.. and IF it does.. how fun will that be? The runs and labor.. oh joy...

Do Not Use Castor Oil!!!! It could cause the baby to have its first bowel moment inside the uterus and that is not good. Wait for nature to take its course. If you are feeling that uncomfortable, talk to your doctor.

well i would not suggest you try castor oil its actually quite dangerous to use and not recommended any more
and quite honestly if you tryed everything else the its unlikely to work anyway you baby needs to be ready to come and it does not sound like it does
whatever circumstances you should not try to induce labor early unless under medical care

Don't do that. You are not even late. Wait it out. I know it's difficult, but you have waited 38 weeks what's 2 more. It may harm your baby. Walk....
