When I turn on my laptop, it just starts to load, the windows XP screen comes up with the little bar moving back and forth, and then a blue screen comes up for about half a second and then it shuts down and restarts and comes up with this message saying "We appolgize for the inconvenicne, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this..............................."

When i turn my laptop on, it doesnt go any farther than the loading page so take that into consideration when answering.

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

Thanks for answers so far but....
It gives me 5 options...

-Safe mode
-Save mode with Networking
-Safe mode with command prompt
-Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
-Start windows normally.

I have tryed all of these choices and none of them do any good.

Restart the computer and press F8 as windows boots up. You can then select "last known good configuration" from the menu and this will undo the change that killed your laptop

Here is the article in detail from Microsoft

It sounds like your BIOS has lost communication with your hard drive. Enter the BIOS and check to see if the hard drive is being detected. If not, try a auto search for the drive. Also check to see if the hard drive cables have come loose. It is also a good idea to unplug them and then plug them back in. Do this for both the IDE cable and the Power cable. Now put your hand on the drive and start the machine. After a few seconds you should feel a tiny vibration. That tells you that the drive is running. If all of this fails to produce an positive results, then you may want to try running the "Windows Repair Console". To do this you will need an XP installation CD. It does not need to be "your" copy in that you are only going it run the repair, and not install the OS.

One other thing. Before you attempt to run the Repair Console, be sure that the boot sequence is set so that the CD drive boots before the hard drive. After you have checked the boot sequence, here is what you do.

USING THE WINDOWS REPAIR CONSOLE

Put your XP disk into your CD drive and restart your system. This will start the XP installation process. When you come to the screen that asks if you want to install XP or if you would like to “Repair” XP, choose Repair. This will open the repair console command prompt. At the prompt, type: chkdsk /r. (There is a space between the k and the /. Now hit “Enter”. The repair should now start. Allow it to run until it stops. This can take some time, so be patient.

If all goes well, XP will replace any and all missing operating system files.

When you start you laptop, hit the F8-key contineously untill you get the list of startup-possibilities, select "Safe Mode" from the list and press "Enter", Enter the "Administrator" account, go to "Start >>> Run", type "msconfig" and press "Enter", select "Startup" tab, disable any unknown entry there, scan for viruses and spyware then restart the pc.
If nothing helps reinstall the Windows or contact to reseller or a technician.

EDIT!!!
THEN YOU HAVE TO REINSTALL WINDOWS (RECOVER)
IT'S THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO

This is THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. It has happened to me for like over 20 times (not exaggerating). The only way I could solve it is by reinstalling Windows XP.

---------------------
Ok so I give you an answer from my personal experience and you give me a negative rating. I told you there is no other way. It gives you these options then when you select one it launches the laoding screen and simply restarts. Reinstall windows . You can manage it as not to lose your files. It's your call but you are just wasting your time.
(please remember to mark this answer if it was useful thanks)

I had this problem, to solve it I removed the hard disk, connected it to a pc and turned it on. Luckily when it detected it, it ran scandisk and fixed some problems automatically, I put it back and BINGO, it worked.
if you are not sure how to remove the hard disk and how to connect it to a pc, or don't have the connectors, don't try it, I did it because I didn't want to lose my files which I should have backed up but never did.
