Wow, that one put my reasearch to the test!

Dendrothermal energy is the conversion of wood (by burning) to electricity.

divided, well, we know that "thermal" is heat (like the thermal blankets, that hold in your body's heat to keep you so warm!)

"dendro" comes from the Greek word "dendron," meaning tree.

Below I listed some things I found in different websites about dendrothermal energy. I listed the sources numerically below.

1) “Dendrothermal systems” are an example of a direct combustion system using woodfuels, wherein power generation plants are integrated with dedicated fuelwood tree plantations. These have been shown to be technically feasible, but their economic and commercial viability remains in doubt.

2) Woodfuels could offer an alternative to power stations using fossil fuels in some areas. Advantages in terms of cost and environmental impacts certainly exist under some circumstances - especially where adequate and economic supplies of biomass are available. Within the region, the Philippines attempted a national-scale dendrothermal electricity programme in the 1980s. The programme was largely unsuccessful due to, among other things, to a lack of cost-effective wood supplies.

3) This one seems to be very well put, but I will just give you the reference page (listed below) Scroll down on this page for the section on "Electricity from wood"

4) check out the US patents! This link (listed below, of course!) gives the description of how wood is converted to heat energy, as well as the inventor, when it was patented, etc. This describes in detail exactly how it works.

I am guessing this is a school project, so it is certainly a challenging one! There are many PDF articles that I found regarding dendothermal energy, benifits and disadvantages, as well as countries that it is being used in. ( I found mainly the Philippines and Thailand)

Try google (or another search engine) with key words/phrases such as: "definition; dendothermal" or "dendro-" also try "wood to energy conversion" and "dendrothermal electricity"

Try simply searching as many different ways as you can, through the definition of the words, part of the word, etc, like I listed above. You should come up with several helpful articles and information. (I think the patent website answers most of your questions, and seems to be the best resorce)

The easiest way to find what you are looking for in the website is to click on "cached" rather than the actual website (if you don't already know this!) This highlights the specific words you searched for, making it easy to find the paragraph about what you are looking for.

Also, something else you may already know (but in case not, I'll tell you!) When you are looking at a PDF document, there is not a "cached" link in the search engine, so you can open the document, and hit "Ctrl F" then enter "dendrothermal" and there you have it, right to the paragraph you are looking for with information about dendrothermal.

Sorry this was so very long, but I tried to give you all the best resorces that I could find, good luck with your research!
