Why is it so hard to get in there?

They accept plenty of people from public schools. It's hard for a lot of people to get into Stanford because it reserves a certain number of spots for students from California. It's mandated in the school charter. Aside from that, it's also a premiere institution with very high standards. Good luck!

62% of students accepted at Stanford attended a public school.

Stanford is one of the top five universities in the US -- and one of a handful of great private universities on the West Coast. Therefore, a lot of people want to go there. They get about 25,000 applicants for about 1500 slots. Since two thirds of those they accept actually attend, it is hard for them to accept more than about 2300 students.

yes, they accept students from all types of schools, public, private, charter...doesn't matter

it's hard to get in there because everyone wants to go there, so it is very competitive. Also, because it is a well-known and prestigious school, it does not accept just anyone. You have to be very smart to handle the school and classes, so they want to make sure that you are smart. That is why they want to make sure you have excellent gpa's and test scores, above average scores.
