Wow...Color is about as personal as religion or politics. you might get hundreds of different answers.

Best would be to match/coordinate/contrast, with any more permanent colors in the room; such as furnishings; drapery or carpet. Paint can always be painted over.

It also might depend on how much more of an EARTH tone look you want. Gads there are hundreds. Hunter Green, Teal, Cranberry, Cocoa, Peach, etc. etc. etc.

Again and with no offense personal selection at the point of purchase is best. It may be that any color sample that your monitor picks up, wouldn't look the same painted on a wall. The Yahoo green is a great example.

Beyond that, while at a paint store, after looking at a million plus chips, you might also see design samples in room vignettes, set up as various displays.

A light colour... No problem... Let me think... How about a nice shade of yellow? I must warn you, yellow is a tricky colour, it's far too easy to pick a yellow that is jarring. How about a nice shade of cappuchino colour? It depends on your furnishings and other matters, such as your tastes. Pastels if you like soft colours, but avoid artificial colours. Stairs and landing... don't pick a strong colour, as it would quickly become overbearing.

Consider cream or yellow.
Dark red or maroon also work
