Flip flops are are a flat, backless, usually rubber sandal consisting of a flat sole held loosely on the foot by a U-shaped strap that passes between the first (big) and second toes and around either side of the foot. They appear to have been developed based on traditional Japanese woven or wooden soled sandals. The exact invention date is not known.
Sandals are, Sandals are an open type of footwear, consisting of a sole held to the wearer's foot by straps or thongs passing over the instep and around the ankle. While the distinction between sandals and other types of footwear can sometimes be blurry (as in the case of huaraches—the woven leather footwear seen in Mexico), the common understanding is that a sandal reveals most or all of the foot (especially the toes) to view.

Sandles have at least 2 buckles/straps and do not flap back when a step is taken.
For an example look up: Ae Robyn, or Birkenstock
Flip-flops have a lower-case y shape that holds the shoe on. When a step is taken it flaps back and makes a flopping sound.
For an example look up: NB flip flops, or Nike flip flops
If you are looking to buy a pair, I prefer sandles. Birkenstock is a bit pricey, but American Eagle (AE) has some in the same style that are pretty comfortable.

Well, flip flops are like a (usually) soft platform with a thin strap that goes over your feet, here virtually all the girls wear them, sandals are like a boot version of a flip flop, like what the roman soldiers wore!

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/1GpNV
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.
