I want to buy an electric mixer for home use but want to know about horsepower.

Horsepower refers to power or the ability to do work. There is an input power. That is the power needed to drive the machine. There is an output power. That is the power that makes it to what you are trying to move. The ratio of output to input is the efficiency. Output divided by input multiplied by one hundred is the efficiency expressed as a percentage. There are different means of calculating or measuring horsepower depending upon the machine and intended use. There is braking horsepower, stall horsepower and other means. Without knowing more about your intent and the machine, I cannot answer more precisely. Much of this is by memory anyway.
