Convince the people that they need to surrender whatever rights they have so the government can protect them and keep them safe from some external danger.
Once you have your population under the spell of being snug and secure, you begin instituting laws that render them unable to reverse the policies that got them there. Take away any habeus corpus, make it illegal to criticize the leadership and create a black hole to hide away any serious political dissent.

Instilling lies and fear for psychological control.
Excessive taxing and outsourcing for financial control.
Create friction among groups for population control.

Have them working constantly to ensure basic survival thus they do not have leisure time to have creative thought or think about the mals their government are doing.

Promote a "liberal" philosophy, push socialism, raise taxes, allow foriegn countries to buy up your real estate, focus on being political correct.

keep us so poor we have to work all the time to barely get by..then we are easily controlled , like here and now..make sure they arent enough jobs to go around, make houses and cars very expensive and increase all expenses but not pay..just like now..look aorund u we r enslaved.
