I have a 10 gallon tank with a balloon molly and a platy (both female) I really want a male betta fish. Could I keep them together? I could get him his own 5 gallon tank, but the temperature during the winter would be ranging from the 50-60's. The 10 gallon is always between 75 and 80 degrees fahrenheit. There is about 2 tablespoons of aquarium salt in the 10 gallon.

Which would you reccemend, not getting one at all, keeping it in the 10 gallon tank, or getting it a 5 gallon tank without a heater?

Thanks for all the answers, just one more thing: My molly is, I wouldn't say aggressive, but is certainly not passive. The platy on the other hand, is not the most dominant fish I've seen (to put it nicely, in other words he's a little bit of a wimp) Also should I quarintine him first? If I do do that then he wouldn't have a heater (my electricity bill is already sky rocketet)

These fish will be absolutely fine with a betta, and a betta will absolutely appreciate the space he will be getting as well
Just put him into the 10 gallon
Even if you would decide to buy a 5 gallon just for him, you can buy a 25 watt heater for the tank

Just make sure you provide him with some live plants, they love to rest on them

Hope that helps
good luck

Yes . .. and no. The betta would be fine with the platy, but the molly is what I'm unsure of. Mollies are known to be fin nippers, and seeing the betta would practically think that's it's candy. I'd be a little careful about the betta and molly together. You may try them for some people have had no problems with them, but I've always had problems with my mollies (I had both black and gold mollies; all females). The ten gallon would be enough for the three fish, but if the molly starts to fin nip your betta for a good while, I'd seperate them.

The betta should do fine with these fish. Neither are nippy so they won't bother the betta and neither has long colorful fins so the betta won't mistake them for another betta and bother them. I would definatly recommend keeping them all in the heated 10gal. Bettas are tropical fish and need the heater 50-60 is much to cold for them to do well in.

Shouldn't be a problem at all. You don't want to keep a betta in a tank that would fall below 75 F. I've kept bettas with other fish many times with no problem, and now have one with a medium angel, danios, guppies, and a cory cat. No prob.
Just keep an eye on them at first and if there is a problem..., well, don't keep it in low temps.

bettas are very aggressive, they would kill the others. you could do that, only if you want to see a full-fledged fish war. bettas cant even go with one another, males or females. dont ask me how the breeders get them to breed, because i have no idea whatsoever!

Don't keep a beta with your other fish. He will kill them. A beta needs to be the prettiest thing in your aquarium.
