i have a hp pavilion with windows 2000. i havent used my pc for several months. when i try to use it, it shows a black screen with white letter and numbers, some of the stuff shown are like "All bighdc becebfed, ! $ # stuff like that. what should i do?

Last time it was shut down may not have been thru the normal shutdown procedure. Sounds like the system is checking the hard drives which is simply normal.
I'd say let it continue until you get a stoppage and an error message.
