I made the mistake of letting my brother use my car today.
He tried starting it a couple times while it was already on.. made some baddd sounds.

Does anyone know if this has caused damage or am I ok?

starters have a feture built into them that will prevent dammage most of the time
however if you do it a lot it will damage the starter and flywheel requiring the trans to need to be removed to fix it

It's probably alright unless this has been happening for a while. The starter motor teeth and the teeth on the flywheel will eventually get ground off if you keep making the same mistake. When it gets bad enough the starter won't turn the engine over and the noise will really get bad!

Doing it a few times probably wont hurt as long as the key was released as soon as the noise was made>

It COULD tear up your starter if you do it too often. If one day your car won't start.... its your starter. I've done it a few times on accident and I've never had a problem.

you are ok

the noise is the starter motor , but they are built to take this happening , its something everyone does sometime , have never heard of it causing damage

all the best
