Where were you when it happened? I was watching cartoons at home... and got mad cause they interrupted em and had the news for the rest of the day.

11/22/1963 is when it happened. Right about noon in Dallas.

I was in class (first grade). School closed early that day and I remember seeing NOTHING but news on TV for two weeks. For all you young whipper-snappers out there you have to try and imagine only having THREE channels on television at the time.

I was involved in an amphibious warfare training exercise at Zambales Red Beach, Subic Bay in the Philippines. I landed in the first wave of landing craft. The fourth wave arrived and real ammunition came onto the beach. Not practice ammo or blanks. I got on the radio and called the control ship to find out what was going on. The reply was terse: "Lancer has been hit. I say again, Lancer has been hit. Defcon Two".
"Lancer" was the code name for President Kennedy that was used by the Secret Service and the military. In the passage of less than half an hour we had moved up to one rung of military readiness before all-out war.

I was not born until three and a half years after the incident occured.... but it was definitely a watershed event.

I remember where I was and what I was doing the day the Space Shuttle exploded in '86... I also recall my Mom telling me in the morning about the failed US Military attempt to rescue the hostages in Iran in 1979, the helicopter crashing in the desert... The Pope being shot in 1981 was announced over the PA system in my school... I also remember being on a golf course in 1983 when someone in my foursome asked if we'd heard on the radio about the Korean Airliner being shot down...

I wasn't yet a twinkle in my father's eye. . .

But I do remember when President Regan got shot very clearly. I was watching a film in school (that dates me, I know) and the room was dark with the door closed. Someone - the principal or a secretary - opened the door and stood in the doorway and announced that the president had been shot. I remember some kids in my class actually cheered. I was dumbfounded.
